Are you familiar with the megatrend No. 1

for decision-makers in the packaging industry –
ahead of AI, machine learning, and big data analytics?

It is: automation.

Our contribution:

Next level

Automation is taking a leap to the next level of innovation through the integration of intelligent, self-learning technologies. In Corruverse, this potential is being applied to industrial applications.

Automation:
Rapid adaptation as a competitive advantage.

Automation addresses all the issues affecting the corrugated industry – from productivity and flexibility to resource efficiency and staff shortages. Virtually every company in the corrugated industry strives to keep its finger on the pulse of transformation in order to remain competitive and create value.

BHS Corrugated has created the framework for this with Corruverse. Here, all technologies and process improvements follow the values: better, cheaper, faster.

A current example of this is intelligent spare parts logistics with iParts. It connects production and maintenance processes on the way to an autonomous, continuously efficiency-optimized, and sustainable corrugated board plant.

With the BHS Jetliner Xceed and BHS Jetliner Monochrome digital printing systems, the breakthrough to seamless integration of corrugated board production and further processing has been achieved, as demonstrated by the successful introduction at leading corrugated board manufacturers – most recently at StarCorr Sheets, LLC. This BHS Jetliner Monochrome installation in Temple (TX, USA) is a good example of a disruptive change in the industry – from selling unprinted sheets to selling printed sheets.

Corruverse:
Launched on May 25 – inspired by visionary leadership

The Corruverse was officially launched on a very special date, May 25. On this day, we celebrated the birthday of Paul Engel, the unforgotten founder of BHS Corrugated. His entrepreneurial spirit paved the way for today's innovations that continue to transform the corrugated industry.

Enjoy the journey through time.

1932
Happy Birthday, Paul Engel!

Paul Engel is born in Dreihacken (former Sudetenland/Germany, today part of the Czech Republic).

1957-1960
A successful start – and a far-reaching vision

1957: Paul Engel joins BHS. Only two years later, he is appointed sales manager of the foundry and machine factory. In 1960, he succeeds in establishing a new business area for BHS – corrugator design and construction. He uses every minute, including family vacations, to gain best practice experience from corrugators.

1993-1995
Launching BHS Corrugated – and becoming a global player

In 1993, Paul Engel founds BHS Corrugated. Thanks to his visionary leadership, the Weiherhammer site is saved from closure. Step by step, the company begins its rise to global market leadership. A key factor is Paul Engel's belief in international cooperation – fostered by good food enjoyed together.

1995-1997
Great plans with China

1995: Paul Engel drives the establishment of a joint venture in the emerging Chinese market. BHS Corrugated is to supply the equipment, while the Chinese partner provides the land and the factory building. Although these plans fail, BHS Corrugated successfully establishes itself in the Chinese market, while China sets up its own corrugated board production.

1997-2000
Great disillusion in the U.S.

The Wertheimer group is the clear number one in the U.S. market in the Sunshine State of California. Life also feels sunny for the Wertheimers. Michelin-starred restaurants and fine wines are a natural part of their European trips with the management team. Ultimately, the story ends without a happy ending for BHS Corrugated.

2002-2012
The circle closes

After so many years of tireless creative drive, Paul Engel is unexpectedly confined to a wheelchair from 2002, carried and cared for by his family. He passes away in 2012. His sons Lars and Christian Engel continue to run the BHS Corrugated business. His memory lives on in the “Engel für Kinder” (Angels for Children) foundation, which he established together with his wife Ingrid.

2025 ...
Ready for the future!

Box Plant 2025? Not 25 years ago, but almost 35 years ago, international networking was already a priority.

Christian Engel: “Then as now, communication with our customers is our top priority – that's how our father steered us in the right direction. Corrugated from back then is Corrugated 4.0 today! Digitized batch size 1 has become reality. The journey to new galaxies and a new universe – the Corruverse – continues.”
