A technology demonstrator and project milestone, a 1600 mm working width roll to roll Digital Printer “Jetliner”, is already designed and is running at SCREEN GP IJC in Cambridge, Great Britain where tests at speeds up to 300 m/min with water based CMYK ink and water based Digital Varnish are run.
Since the early 2000s and for more than 15 years, BHS Corrugated has been conducting research and development into digital print. BHS Corrugated turned to cooperate with prestigious partners in the inkjet sector at an early stage. In the meantime inkjet technology became ready for serving the needs of the high volume corrugated industry market. At that time the technical design of the machine began.
The printer RSR® (Roll to printed sheet in real time) by BHS Corrugated is a high volume digital printer designed for the requirements of corrugated box plants. Speeds up to 300 m/min at working widths of up to 2800 mm are to be state of the art technology for the market. Consequently the machine is able to print typical annual output volumes of a corrugated box plant. The print quality is suitable to serve the market range from transport packaging to High Quality Post Print orders.
The RSR® solution is modular, meaning customers can arrange the machine configuration depending on their product portfolio. This approach offers a comprehensive range of performances. With its pre-coating and varnish options the machine is capable of printing all containerboard substrates – therefore no limitations for customers. Additionally added value with Digital Varnish (Spot Gloss) is possible.
The RSR® by BHS Corrugated will be able to work as a stand-alone roll to roll preprint machine and/or in the RSR® process mode depending on customer choice.
BHS Corrugated started an operative collaboration with Inca Digital Printers Ltd., a spinoff of the University of Cambridge. In 2016 BHS Corrugated and SCREEN GP (Inca´s Japanese corporate parent) formed an exclusive partnership for developing the printer RSR® (Roll to sheet in real time) . A new company was found, SCREEN GP IJC based in Cambridge at the Inca facilities. They will provide the print engine which is going to be integrated into the RSR® by BHS Corrugated.
