BHS Corrugated donates ultra-modern 3D X-ray machine for the clinics of Nordoberpfalz

BHS Corrugated donates 100,000 euros for the purchase of a 3D image converter for the Clinic for Trauma Surgery, Orthopaedics and Hand Surgery at Weiden Hospital.

Background: Joint fractures are complicated and require absolutely precise surgical work. When setting the fracture, for example, fragments must not be displaced or a joint stage left in place. This requires a very good view of the fracture. Although conventional X-ray machines are helpful, they can only provide the surgeon with a two-dimensional image of the injured joint.

The procedure is much more precise if the surgeon can rely on a 3D image converter. It creates different views that are comparable to the quality of a computer tomogram. On the screen, the trauma surgeon can, for example, insert implants in a much more targeted manner. Complications can thus be avoided.

The fact that an additional device of this kind would further enhance the high standard of trauma surgery at the Weiden Clinic was the subject of a discussion between head physician Prof. Dr. Christian von Rüden and patient Christian Engel, spokesman for the management of BHS Corrugated. Mr. Engel and BHS Corrugated, who are already involved in sponsoring youth, education and sport, soon got down to business: the trauma surgery department at KNO AG was to receive a 3D image converter. Managing Director Christian Engel personally handed over the cheque for the purchase this week at Weiden Hospital on behalf of his brother Lars.

Professor von Rüden was “highly impressed” by this. His heartfelt thanks were echoed by KNO board member Michael Hoffmann and Christopher Rehberg, Head of IT, Medical Technology and Digitalization. “This gesture not only shows generosity, but also active participation in modern local healthcare,” said a delighted Michael Hoffmann.
"With this donation, the money stays in the region. It is in good hands here and also benefits us in the form of a healthy company environment," explained Christian Engel. Just how seriously he takes this is shown by the fact that he employs a health manager in his company, Christian Wolf, who looks after the physical well-being of BHS Corrugated employees.

The donation from BHS Corrugated will also benefit the region in another sense. The manufacturer of the 3D image converter is Siemens Healthineers in Kemnath.
